Celebrate Christmas

Christmas is a wonderful festival — full of celebrations and joyous times with those close to us. The wintry atmosphere is full of special times where dinners are hosted, gifts are exchanged, and people come together to make the most of this festival time. The warmth and merriment of Christmas multiply when it is shared with love and exuberance. This generosity must also be shared with those in need, especially street children. UNICEF has termed street children as one of the most vulnerable groups in India. The mental health of street children is also gravely affected as they are deprived of all basic resources, care and protection, and left to fend for themselves.

In the age when all children must have access to a safe shelter, regular education, healthcare facilities, hot and nutritious meals daily, street and working children are forced to take up odd jobs. They work as cheap labour in factories, domestic help, or even at stalls or roadside restaurants. The overwhelming streets of India are not a place for a child to live on their own. Unfortunately, children who run away from home or get separated from their families end up in the dark and toxic underbelly of India. Many children fall into the traps of illegal activities like drug peddling, prostitution, child labour, violence etc, and move further away from the very concept of education and its benefits.

To celebrate the true spirit of Christmas, you can donate for children’s education and help Salaam Baalak Trust protect the future of street children. SBT is an NGO in Delhi/NCR that has been running varied programs for the benefit of children in need, including health and nutrition, mental health programs, vocational training, and even workshops on performing arts like theatre and dance. There are several hardships that street children face and organizations like Salaam Baalak Trust works for their welfare to help improve their living conditions. Children are innocent and impressionable and must have proper living conditions to have a happy childhood, as well as a promising and thriving future. Your contribution can make a world of difference to the lives of underprivileged children who have experienced hardships and deplorable conditions on the streets. Celebrate Christmas and donate to SBT now!
